david sylvian started his musical career in 1977, when he formed the band Japan with his brother steve on drums. the band was very successful in england and gained worldwide fame - sadly the height of which was in 1982 when they broke up and went into separate projects.

since then, david has done many solo albums, worked with countless musicians including ryuichi sakamoto and robert fripp, and started his own record label - samadhi sound. he has been a powerful influence on many people during his years in the music scene - from freelance musicians to the likes of nick rhodes of duran duran (at one time in the early 1980s duran duran wanted sylvian to produce them).

as an extra bit of trivia, my boyfriend and i met on the old sylvian fanlisting.. i was sad when it was abandoned, but now i run it.. muahaha. ;)
